Summit Certification Leadership Track

To receive a Summit Certification Diploma through the University of Minnesota you must select and complete 8 of the CDTL courses from the list below. The three listed Fissure workshops are also requirements for certification. Enrollees can "grandfather in" previously passed courses within the Summit Certification track if taken within the past 24 months.

The CTDL courses are offered on a public basis at the University of Minnesota's Minneapolis or Rochester campuses. The Fissure workshops are offered on a public basis in Minneapolis and Chicago. Please check the individual course for description, dates and location.

Communication in a Technical Environment - One Day $495.00  (.75 CEUs)
Focus on effective business communication principles and techniques to motivate action and effect change.
 
Conflict Management - One Day  $495.00   (.75 CEUs)   
Learn theory and practice methods for applying conflict management techniques in an organization. Includes cooperative and competitive models of conflict, basics of bargaining, conflict strategies, communication styles, listening skills, dispute resolution, and third-party mediation.
 
Corporate Entrepreneurship - One Day  $495.00 (.75 CEUs)
Identify and develop new business opportunities within an existing corporation. Explore ways to make an established corporation "entrepreneurial" and market new technologies both within and outside a corporation.
 
Managing Innovation in a Technological Environment - One Day  $495.00      (.75 CEUs)
Define and explore various dimensions of innovation, e.g., invention, discovery, creativity. Discuss management of innovation in a technological setting and the benefits of it to an organization.
 
Managing Intellectual Property - One Day  $495.00  (.75 CEUs)
Gain familiarity with common forms of intellectual property; identify common business strategies involving intellectual property; develop practices to minimize institutional exposure to infringement liability.
 
Managing New Product Development for Business Growth - One Day  $495.00  (.75 CEUs)

Introduction to cost system design and assigning capacity costs, activity-based costing, using activity-based costing to assess customer profitability, and using the balanced scorecard to communicate and devise strategy.

Introduction to the strategic management of technology. Participants gain an understanding of strategic management issues related to technology-based businesses.

 Using technology foresight and forecasting tools to discover, identify, assess, develop, and commercialize technologies to expand and grow high-tech businesses.

Explores innovation challenges and opportunities. Participants analyze their organization's past successes, role models, and processes. Use innovation theory and case studies to learn what's needed in the corporate climate and in strategy development to create a robust innovation environment. Technology Futures Forum - One Day  $495.00 (.75 CEUs)
Explores a critical management of technology issue related to innovation, technology forecasting, R&D and technology valuation, and intellectual property management. Each year a new topic is featured with a keynote address, hands-on sessions, and discussions
 

 Project Management SPL® Workshop - 3 Days  $1595.00  21 PDUs
Chicago | Minneapolis
Learn the basic tools of project management (Project Charter, WBS, Network Diagram, Gantt Chart, Estimation, and Risk Management) and then use the project simulator to practice and develop their project management competencies in a real-world environment. They manage the technical (planning, execution, and controlling) dimensions and lead the human side of a product development project from start to finish.
 
 Project Management Professionals® (PMPs) certified through the Project Management Institute® will be given credit for this Workshop and are not required to attend.
 
Advanced Project Management SPL® Workshop - 3 Days  $1595.00 21 PDUs

Participants learn, through lecture and computer simulation, advanced project management concepts like individual and team motivation, leadership, earned value management system, procurement management, stakeholder relationship management, and critical chain. These tools and concepts are practiced and integrated into a real-life learning experience that raises project management competency to the highest levels
 
Leadership and Change Management SPL® Workshop - 2 Days  $1195.00 14 PDUS
Learn key leadership and change management concepts and tools including; ideal leadership traits, exemplary leadership practices, change management, the change and transition process, and how to develop productive relationships. Leadership skills are the "soft" skills and they require practice to develop competence. In this workshop the skills are practiced in a "safe" environment as participants actually lead a simulated real-life team through an unwanted change.
